Clinical
Hypnotherapy is a form of induced relaxation in which the
subconscious part of the mind is open to suggestion.
Changes in long standing thoughts, feelings, habits and
behaviour can become possible. You
will not be ‘put out’, you will be aware and conscious the whole
time and if you wish to leave the hypnotic state for any reason at
any time, you can do so simply by deciding to.
So
How Does Clinical Hypnotherapy Work?
Basically the human mind is
made up of two sections. The
conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind helps
with our daily decision-making process, it is realistic, logical and
intelligent. Essentially
the conscious mind learns how to do things and once learned, passes
the information on to the subconscious mind.
The
subconscious mind is the biggest section of our mind and is hidden
from our everyday awareness. The
subconscious operates on automatic pilot.
It is involved with our emotions, our imagination and
memories as well as controlling our nervous system, respiratory
system, digestion and the beating of our heart.
The subconscious mind can deal with many complex instructions
at any one time but it is not intelligent.
Behaviours and body reactions that are outside our conscious
control come from the subconscious.
Hypnotherapy
enables us to talk directly to the subconscious, persuading it and
enabling it to change bad habits and preconditioned ways of
reacting.
One
of the most common occurrences of hypnosis is in driving. Most
drivers at some stage will have experienced the sudden realization
that they cannot remember consciously driving the last several
miles. This is because
they have been concentrating so hard on their driving that a state
of hypnosis has been induced. The
result is that they have been able to drive for several miles in a
trance. While their
conscious mind has been thinking of many things, their subconscious
mind has successfully taken over the driving of the vehicle and
safely negotiated gear changing, braking, etc.
